Joomla 1.5, 1.6, 1.7, 1.8 and 2.5 Migration and Timelines
For those of you who have websites developed using Joomla, there is a transition phase currently going on. Joomla 1.5 is the long stable release. Joomla 1.6 just superseded 1.5, and now, Joomla 1.7 phased out Joomla 1.6. From what we gather, the next release of Joomla will be a long-term release and it may be called Joomla 1.8 or Joomla 2.5. The expected release will be around January 2012.
What this means for you, as a website owner is this: you need to upgrade your Joomla websites eventually. There are security, compatibility and other risks if you do not upgrade. Eventually, your website will stop displaying or operating as it should. If you need help in upgrading your websites or even finding out whether you need an upgrade, contact us, regardless who initially developed your website. We can quickly do some preliminary checks to see what you need.
